Course Overview

Akwaaba is an introductory Twi course designed for absolute beginners. Twi is one of
Ghana’s most widely spoken and culturally significant languages, connecting millions
through shared identity, heritage, and everyday life.

Guided by Teacher Frank, this course provides a structured foundation
in pronunciation, vocabulary, and basic sentence formation. Instruction emphasizes
clarity, repetition, and guided practice, with cultural context woven throughout to
support respectful and natural communication.


What You Will Learn

  • Foundational Twi sounds, alphabet, and pronunciation patterns
  • Everyday greetings and polite conversational responses
  • Common phrases used in daily interactions
  • How to introduce yourself and ask simple questions
  • Numbers, counting, and asking or stating age
  • Basic present-tense sentence formation

Course Structure

  • Week 1: Introduction to Akan culture and the Twi language; sounds and pronunciation
  • Week 2: Greetings, responses, and cultural norms of politeness
  • Week 3: Common phrases and simple conversational patterns
  • Week 4: Self-introduction; personal pronouns and present tense of “to be”
  • Week 5: Numbers, counting, and expressing age
  • Week 6: Building simple sentences; review and course wrap-up
