Oi Kids brings Kriolu of Cabo Verde to learners through two live online foundations classes designed for different stages of learning. Children ages 6 to 11 learn through repetition, listening, speaking, familiar vocabulary, and age appropriate cultural connection. Learners ages 13 and older go further into sentence building, listening comprehension, practical conversation, reading, writing, and understanding how Kriolu works.
Each Oi class introduces learners to Kriolu through instruction appropriate for their age and stage of development.
Both classes are live online, beginner friendly, culturally connected, and designed to build a strong first foundation in Kriolu of Cabo Verde.
A welcoming introduction to Kriolu built around speaking, listening, repetition, everyday vocabulary, simple conversation, and cultural connection.
A more mature beginner experience that builds pronunciation, listening comprehension, sentence formation, real conversation, reading, writing, and cultural understanding.
Learners receive access to the class recording for up to 7 days after each live session. Recordings can be used to catch up after an absence, review pronunciation, strengthen listening skills, or revisit a lesson for additional practice.
Oi is designed to help learners hear Kriolu, understand it, use it aloud, and connect the language to the people and culture of Cabo Verde.
Learners begin with greetings, introductions, common responses, polite expressions, and useful everyday interaction.
Students hear Kriolu spoken aloud, practice authentic pronunciation, and develop greater comfort understanding spoken language.
Learners practice asking questions, responding to others, expressing ideas, and gradually using Kriolu more independently.
Kriolu is taught alongside Cabo Verdean culture, people, communities, traditions, and everyday life.
Both classes build Kriolu foundations, but the teaching methods and expectations change according to the learner’s developmental stage.
Younger learners benefit from frequent listening, repetition, familiar topics, short interactions, visual support, and lots of opportunities to say the language aloud.
Older learners are ready to identify patterns, understand sentence construction, retain explanations, read and write, sustain longer exchanges, and apply previous lessons in new situations.
Oi gives families a simple way to add meaningful Kriolu language learning to the week without turning it into another overwhelming commitment.
No previous Kriolu experience is required. Both tracks are designed to give new learners an accessible starting point.
Classes are live online and short enough to fit comfortably into the week while still giving learners consistent exposure.
Oi does not separate Kriolu from Cabo Verde. Learners are introduced to the language alongside the islands, people, communities, traditions, and everyday cultural life that give it meaning. We want learners to understand more than what a word means. We want them to understand where the language lives.
Both Oi programs are offered at the same straightforward monthly tuition.
Mondays from 7:00 PM to 7:40 PM Eastern.
Mondays from 7:45 PM to 8:25 PM Eastern.
Oi works well for families looking for heritage language learning, cultural connection, language enrichment, or simply a meaningful way to begin learning Kriolu.
That is it. We keep the entry point simple.

No. Oi welcomes learners who are reconnecting with Cabo Verdean heritage as well as learners who are simply interested in Kriolu, Cabo Verde, and its culture.
Oi combines language learning with cultural connection while recognizing that younger children and older learners do not process language in exactly the same way. Each class teaches the same living language through an approach designed for that learner’s stage of development.
