Description:
Kriolu, especially the Santiago variant, carries the sound of Cape Verde’s soul; resilient, rhythmic, and rooted in Bantu foundations. In this live session, learners will be guided by Teacher Eliane through the basics of Kriolu greetings, self-introductions, and natural conversation flow as spoken in daily life on Santiago Island. The class honors the concept of sodade, a word that expresses longing for home, people, or a time passed, central to the Cape Verdean spirit and found in its language and music alike.

This one hour class is structured to support first time learners and returning speakers alike. Students will hear and practice essential phrases, respond to prompts, and learn directly from a native speaker who brings lived cultural knowledge into the space. The tone is relaxed, respectful, and engaging, perfect for anyone interested in connecting with Kriolu through language, story, and gentle practice. No prior experience is needed.
